Asger, Max, Pauline and Andy, had the most fantastic time at the Red House in Aldeburgh on Monday 30th April 2018 – thanks to Joe, our host who had arranged a private tour of the house, the chance to see behind the scenes in the archive and to meet with Chris & Abi – who work as archivists and who shared some fabulous documents, insights and information.

Max was able to play on Benjamin Britten’s actual piano – everyone agreed that “this visit exceeded expectations”

Particularly moving were the letters that Abi shared between Benjamin and his partner Peter – at a time when homosexuality was illegal – the letters spoke of love and affection – that really highlight that we love who we love – regardless of sex and/or gender.

Chris, shared small details of the couples relationship, through the bills and receipts that had been kept – somethings so simple providing a great deal of information.

The visit ended over a hot drink, chatting about the visit, how to become an archivist, how we could visit again and how we could work together to develop a really exciting idea that would offer young LGBT*Q+ people the chance to make history.

Many thanks to Joe, Abi, Chris and everyone at Red House.
